What is Cardano?
Cardano is a decentralized public blockchain and cryptocurrency project that is fully open source.
It is the first blockchain platform to evolve out of a scientific philosophy and a research-first driven approach. The development team consists of a large global collective of expert engineers and researchers. Cardano is developing a smart contract platform which seeks to deliver more advanced features than any protocol previously developed.
It is the first blockchain platform to evolve out of a scientific philosophy and a research-first driven approach, and one of the first to be built in the Haskell programming language. Cardano's technology is built in layers, which gives the system the flexibility to be more easily maintained and allow for upgrades by way of soft forks. The settlement layer will have a unit of account, while the control layer will run smart contracts.
Cardano will also use a democratic governance system that allows its users to vote on changes to the protocol. The project has ambitions to give users direct control over their funds, data, and identity while also allowing for regulation compliance where necessary. Cardano aims to provide an accessible financial system for all by creating an open platform for fair financial services innovation that can be used by anyone regardless of their background or location.
