What is Maker?
Maker is a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) that operates on the Ethereum blockchain.
It is a platform for creating and managing digital assets, such as stablecoins, derivatives, and other financial instruments. Maker was founded in 2015 by Rune Christensen and has since become one of the most popular projects in the DeFi space. At its core, Maker is a smart contract platform that enables users to create and manage digital assets on the Ethereum blockchain.
Maker’s primary product is its stablecoin Dai, which is backed by collateral held in an Ethereum smart contract. Dai is designed to maintain a 1:1 peg with the US dollar, allowing users to transact with a stable currency without having to trust a third-party custodian. In addition to Dai, Maker also offers other products such as Multi-Collateral Dai (MCD), which allows users to collateralize their assets with multiple types of collateral; Oasis, an open source protocol for trading and lending; and Dai Savings Rate (DSR), which allows users to earn interest on their Dai holdings.
Maker also provides tools for developers to build applications on top of its platform. Overall, Maker provides users with access to a wide range of financial services on the Ethereum blockchain without having to trust any third-party custodians or intermediaries. This makes it an attractive option for those looking for secure and transparent financial services on the blockchain.
